Figurative Sculpture

                                                         “Purple Heart”  (Measurements)        I wanted this sculpture to capture the feel of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for my social issue. I accomplished this by building up a well built man and dressing him in bandages and a tactical vest with a Purple Heart adorning it. The big frame paints a picture that even past all that muscle is a broken soul, further illustrated by the pose I chose. Which is clasping their face while looking down. Also, I channeled a bit of classical antiquity by having the other limb stop at the elbow, mimicking a aged statue.   “Pain Conquered Through Speed” Digital Artwork, “The mind can learn to conquer pain,” (Ackerman, pg. 101).     This piece depicts a desperate urgency. The moment I sought to capture was the feeling you get when you get burned or any kind of startling injury and you recoil your hand back as fast as humanly possible in an attempt to somehow run away from the pain in a sense. If I could animate this I would have the all of the energy of this piece dissipate very quickly and show that the pain caught up to this person in the end.
